Children's Transformational Breath® Introductory Workshop Ages 10 to 14
Are you the parent of a child who would benefit from learning how to breathe more efficiently?
Well, we are offering a unique opportunity for you to do this.
Children are mini adults, and like us, they can hold their breath when they feel upset. Over time, this breath holding creates subtle changes in their breathing pattern. They might learn to breathe from the upper chest, taking short and shallow breaths rather than using their diaphragm and whole respiratory system.
When we breathe in short and shallow ways, we send a message that triggers our fight or flight response. This response is the bodies defence mechanism for protecting itself from danger. A child can feel scared by the rush of adrenalin and cortisol pumping round the body.
Children will find it difficult to articulate what is happening for them and may experience anxiety mostly physical to start, for example, they may say ‘my tummy hurts’; ‘my legs hurt, my arms hurt’; ‘I need the toilet ’. To cope with symptoms of anxiety, youngsters may start biting their nails, or resist going to school, they might feel angry, or shut down and withdraw into themselves. Children learn to manage these fear and anxieties through engaging in distractions like electronic devices and games consoles.
During this workshop, Elif will be teaching the children how to access diaphragmatic breathing.
They will learn how to use their whole respiratory system starting from their belly to their chest. Understanding how to relax the exhale of the breath will bring a sense of inner calm and deep relaxation.
